The Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection, Omar GarcĂa Harfuch, reported this Wednesday, March 12, about the detention of two men who were transporting methamphetamine hidden in boxes of nopal and chia toasts. These arrests took place in Tamaulipas, as part of 'Operation Northern Border' launched on February 5 to reinforce security in the border area and prevent drug trafficking between Mexico and the United States.

As part of this operation, these two individuals were captured, and 389 packages containing 712 kilos of methamphetamine hidden in a trailer were seized. The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and other authorities such as National Defense, Navy, National Guard, and the SSPC itself.

Random inspections conducted at a checkpoint in San Fernando led to the discovery of the drug camouflaged in the transportation of nopal and chia toasts. The detainees, along with the drug and the vehicle, were made available to the corresponding authorities to determine their legal situation and carry out the investigation of the case.

In a statement, the commitment of the institutions in the Security Cabinet was highlighted for working together to prevent drugs from reaching the youth. Since the beginning of 'Operation Northern Border,' 1,319 people have been arrested and large quantities of weapons, cartridges, drugs, vehicles, and properties have been secured.

In states such as Baja California, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, and Sonora, significant arrests and seizures have been carried out, representing an economic blow of 1,896 million pesos to criminal organizations. All these actions aim to weaken the power of these criminal networks and protect society from their illicit activities.
